The Great Protection Shift. A fantastic event you really cannot miss!

The Great Protection Shift. A fantastic event you really cannot miss!

Before we get stuck into the regular round-up of Protection Guru content from last week, we are excited to inform you of the forthcoming event from AMI (Association of Mortgage Intermediaries) entitled The Great Protection Shift.

Here is the Registration link: https://app.livestorm.co/ami-15/the-great-protection-shift

What should you expect from the session?

  • Watch the live launch of the AMI Viewpoint report on the UK protection market
  • On Thursday 3rd November at 9am for 45 minutes.

This year they will re-visit some previous questions to see how perceptions have changed and for the first time their research will also be supplemented by views from a bespoke community of consumers. Selected from a range of demographics, this group have provided some interesting insights into their perception of  protection and areas that the industry could improve in.

Some statistics unveiled from 2021 findings:

  • 1 in 4 mortgage brokers referred protection to a protection specialist, up from 1 in 7 in 2020
  • 42% of consumers felt their mortgage broker only suggested they take protection to increase commission (not to ensure they were financially protected)

Previous AMI Viewpoint research has provided some fascinating and thought provoking insights, so this year’s launch event is well worth attending. Do you believe there will be a positive / negative shift in 2022? We would love to hear your thoughts as well.

Turning to our regular Protection Guru content from last week, we kicked things off on Monday with an insight examining how insurers support income protection claimants return to work.

On Tuesday we brought you details of our upcoming November Protection Forum, where we’ll be discussing whether income protection products need to change to align more closely with the new consumer duty requirements?

The Forum will take place on Tuesday 8th November at 12:00pm, advisers can register for their free ticket here.

On Tuesday we also launched our new and updated Showcase Page for The Exeter, giving advisers all of the details about their protection proposition in one easy to use guide. We’re working on making some improvements to the pages and regularly updating content on them, so make sure you check out all the Showcase Pages here.

We returned to our October Protection Forum on Wednesday, bringing you the output content from the second session where we discussed how advisers deliver quality driven protection recommendations. We heard from a number of advisers during this session, who shared their insights on what their advise process looks like, so it’s well worth listening back to the transcript if you didn’t attend.

On Thursday we turned to a emotive but important subject, children’s critical illness cover and specifically the financial impact of a child falling ill. We’ve seen major developments in the children’s critical illness cover in recent years, with most insurers now offering a range of options to suit different clients needs. Whilst it’s not always an easy issue to discuss, the financial consequences of a child falling ill could be serious.

Finally, we finished the week with a look back at some of the major protection product updates from the last 2 months, covering everything from updates to the ABI’s critical illness minimum standards, to a new Smart Health app from AIG.

Have a great week everyone.
