Everything we covered last week on Protection Guru

It’s an exciting week for us at Protection Guru as we countdown to our annual Protection Guru Awards event, taking place this coming Friday. It’s hard to believe another year has come around already, as it doesn’t feel like that long ago we were frantically putting the finishing touches to our inaugural 2021 event.

This time of year is packed with various awards events and we’ve been incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received, from the many fantastic entries from advisers, firms and networks, the hundreds of votes from advisers in our insurer awards and of course all of our sponsors, we couldn’t do it without you.

All of us at Protection Guru have judged numerous awards events, and it’s never an easy task, particularly when our industry is bursting with talent like never before. After the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic we now face fresh challenges from the cost of living crisis and ongoing economic woes, so it’s certainly not an easy time. These awards however highlight that our industry, from advisers to insurers, consistently rises to these challenges and is doing a lot of good to protect more people and drive better consumer outcomes. We look forward to announcing all of the winners on Friday.

Turning to our regular Protection Guru content, we kicked things off last week with a reminder on Monday of our upcoming Protection Forum, which is taking place this Tuesday (4th) at 12:00pm. As ever it promises to be an interesting session, focusing on two important topics: managing cancellations and quality driven recommendations. Those wishing to attend can still sign up for a free ticket on the link below:

On Tuesday we launched our latest insurer Showcase Page, this time in collaboration with British Friendly and highlighting their range of income protection products. This should be a must read for anyone not familiar with their IP product range, and will be a very helpful asset for those wanting to quickly find out some of the key USPs. As a former adviser myself, these pages are designed with advisers in mind, so get straight into the things advisers need to know about when wanting to understand or recommend a particular product.

With the recent turmoil in the mortgage market, we turned our attention on Wednesday to mortgage life insurance and specifically what impact the possibility of rate rises will have on mortgage cover policies. This insight examined some of the ways insurers help clients ensure their mortgage is paid off in full should a claim arise, if rates change.

Thursday saw an announcement from Legal & General of an increase to their waiver of premium maximum entry, which we covered in full. Later that day we marked World Heart day with an insight examining how critical illness plans cover heart attack.

Finally, we finished the week with a round-up of the output content from our July and September Protection Forums (we don’t hold a forum in August).

Wishing everyone a successful week!
