Don’t miss the AMI Protection Viewpoint report and Is Cancer cover sustainable for Critical Illness insurance
While one news story dominated all agendas last week there were some interesting events and articles that really should not be missed. Particularly important for our industry was the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries 2024 Protection Viewpoint report I will be publishing my own detailed thoughts on this shortly but in the meantime, it is well worth visiting their site where you can watch the launch presentation and download the full report.
Also last week, we published an analysis where my colleague Jo Legg created a fascinating article produced in collaboration with our medical panel asking the question Is the current approach to Cancer sustainable within Critical Illness.
It has long been a belief of mine that we need to prepare for a market where what can be covered in Critical Illness plans becomes very different and indeed there may be a strong argument for saying that Critical Illness plans may currently be the best they will ever be, so does this create a significant reason for advice and revisiting Critical Illness plans to see if clients can take advantage of better wordings.
In my view this is essential reading for everyone in the industry, especially insurers and reinsurers. It is perhaps particularly timely given the FCA Pure Protection review. Emerging science is transforming testing, diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions and this will impact the sustainability of our industry. While it is crucial we do not create an uninsurable segment of society, we also need to ensure the benefits of pooled risk cannot be prejudiced by taking advantage of new testing anonymously.
Also last week Amanda Newman Smith looked at why Income Protection must become a cornerstone of Financial Planning.
Matt Chapman highlighted why Price is not the issue helping clients see the true value of Protection
Also, Jo Legg explored Pancreatic cancer challenges and implications for life and critical illness insurance
Other articles that caught my eye:
Tom Dunstan from FT Adviser wrote an interesting article last week, regarding Emma Thomson, the winner of our prestigious “Dedication to Protection” award. It gives fascinating insights to what drives one our industry’s most committed personalities Protection Guru winner Thomson on why it is important to promote cover.
