NEW Webinar dates & a month in the life of our new Protection Guru

We are delighted at the level of interest in our latest webinar dates, thanks to those of you that have signed up, your invitations will now be in your inbox.
In this article we’ll be sharing the dates for our next tranche, which runs through March and April, and catching up with our new Protection Guru to find out how his first month at the helm has gone.
JC, you’ve been part of the FTRC team since January 7th, how’s your first month been?
In a word, whirlwind. It’s been a fantastic month, no two days are the same and time seems to evaporate, I can’t believe it’s Friday already. You’ll have seen a swell of Insights on the Socials and I’ve been fully immersing myself in provider’s propositions with interest. I’ve been getting to grips with systems and processes of course, and I can’t thank the team enough for all their support.
As you’d expect I’ve been involved in lots of meetings, two highlights have been January’s and February’s Protection Forums where we unpacked ‘Addressing harm and vulnerability from separating life policies’ and latterly ‘Impact of budget on protection and Inheritance Tax’. Two topics worthy of a deep dive with some great guest speakers.
Finally, last week I attended our annual ‘Empowering Advice Through Technology’ conference in London, some interesting plenary discussions, demonstrations and an impressive swathe of exhibitors. All of this in four weeks, as I say it’s been a whirlwind.
Tell us more about the forthcoming webinars.
Protection Guru Pro (PGP) is a simple tool to use, you can generate analysis within five minutes. As you may know I’m hugely passionate about Protection and my primary objective is to support advisers to have better conversations around the value embedded in Protection policies. We know price is priority for many customers, PGP allows advisers to compare cost alongside quality with a view to demonstrating value.
Sessions will be an hour long with specific focus each week on Life Protection, Critical Illness, Income Protection and in the final week how PGP can help advisers to compare legacy Critical Illness products, a key element of any periodic review.
My style is collaborative, there won’t be any slides, but we’ll walk through the Protection Guru website and complete a demonstration of PGP. I’ll show you how to interpret the outputs and suggest ways to position your report to the client. Every session will be recorded should you need to watch it again.
What about the man in the Protection Guru chair?
I’ve been married to Nick for 29 years and I’m also Dad to Ella, who’s 25 and an Underwriter at Legal & General, we’re two protection nerds cut from the same cloth. I lost both my parents at a young age, so I fully understand the challenges protection seeks to address, I guess that’s why I’m so invested in promoting good customer outcomes.
In our spare time you’ll find Nick and I wandering around various National Trust properties with our Cockapoo, Ziggy, named for David Bowie’s alter ego, Ziggy Stardust. I’m also an avid reader and Aston Villa fan.
I heard that you’re a semi-professional stand up, is that true?
Yes, I’ve not done much lately, but I’m what’s known as a “middle-ten” which means I typically do a 10-minute set between the compère, and headline act. I’ve gigged with some outstanding comedians such as Gary Delaney, Zoe Lyons and Paul Sinah, all of which have been hugely generous with their time and expertise. It’s certainly an experience I’d recommend exploring.
My favourite joke? “I’ve got a joke about a fat badger, but it wouldn’t fit in my set”.
What’s do you think is the biggest protection myth?
Ah, personally it’s “Life is life”. In our first webinar we’ll unpack the differences between Life Protection products. The differences may not always be obvious but there’s often real value embedded in life cover, which I’ll help you unpack.
