Less than one week to go…
As we prepare to enter the summer holidays (or perhaps yours have already commenced), Teams calls up and down the land will be interrupted by small children wanting to be entertained, snacks, a drink, lunch, to put the TV on, iPad has run out of battery, to find a specific toy, a wee… (breathe). On the subject of preparation, I now have less than 6 days to go until my Triathlon and my experiment to see how added value services can support me.
Those that have followed my Triathlon training escapades, know that I have been struggling with a tear of the lateral and medial gastric/soleus aponeurosis in both legs. the gastric/soleus aponeurosis is a feather-like tissue that connects the gastric and soleus calve muscles. After 10 weeks of physio, provided by Vitality, I am hoping (fingers crossed) that the calves have recovered. I guess we will find out when I really push them on Sunday!
As the race approaches, once again the nutrition consultation from AIG Life will come into it’s own. On Thursday I start the “Carb Loading” process when I have been told to try to eat around 800g of carbs for three consecutive days prior to the race. This will ensure that I have the energy in my muscles required for an endurance race. Whilst this may sound amazing, it is going to be really hard! I have been struggling to consumer 400g a day so to double this amount will be interesting…
What this is all for…
Joking and summer body aside (I go on holiday a week after the triathlon, not that I am counting down), there is also serious reason why I am taking part in my first Triathlon and here it is…
I am hoping to raise money for a charity that is close to my heart due family circumstance. It was shortly after the first lockdown that my mum had a severe stroke. Overnight she lost her ability to communicate and a lot of mobility. Fortunately, she pulled through and is happy at home but she is only able get out a few words and is heavily reliant on my dad. Overnight he became a 24-hour carer and whilst my mum has made a lot of progress (pacemaker insertion inbetween) the recovery continues to be very slow.
The Stroke Association specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support they can help support rebuild more lives like my mums.
If you are able I would be grateful for any support you can show via this link

Have a great week and if you are on a Teams call with me, please excuse my kids!!!
