7Families – 10 years on
The month of May marks the tenth anniversary of inception of the hugely successful 7Families campaign. The campaign was, and continues to be, a charity initiative providing a year’s tax-free income to seven individuals who’ve lost earnings due to serious illness or disability. It aims to raise awareness about the financial risks of long-term health issues, support families in crisis, and showcase the benefits of income protection and the support services it can provide. To commemorate its ten year anniversary, the 7Families team has launched a video remembering the amazing work that was done.
The video revisits the “7Families” project, a decade after its inception. Seven families, who had suffered income shocks and lacked such insurance, were selected to receive payments and support services for a year, akin to what a policy would offer. The video features interviews with industry professionals and advisors, reflecting on the project’s legacy and the powerful stories of the families involved.
The project is undoubtedly one of the most high profile and positive initiatives that the protection industry has produced in recent times. It highlights everything that this industry should and in the most part, does stand for. It demonstrates what can happen when competition is put to the side and as a collective we work together for the greater good. In my career, I have never seen so many competing forces from insurers come together for no individual gain but to promote the industry as a whole and this is something the team behind 7Families should be hugely proud of.
Putting the initiative into todays terms, it was very much an outcome based project and that outcome was hugely positive for the families involved, but also the industry as a whole.
Anyway, here is the video. It is well worth a watch with a cup of tea!
