Everything we covered last week on Protection Guru

The big news this week at Protection Guru will be the announcement of the shortlists in our insurer categories for the upcoming Protection Guru Awards. We’ll be tallying up the votes this morning and announcing which insurers made it into the top five tomorrow, so watch this space!

The winners in our insurer categories will be decided exclusively by the votes, so this has been a great opportunity for advisers to have their say and determine the outcome, without any submissions or judging. Rather than awarding insurers based on whether they offer the best income protection or critical illness product, etc, we’ve also instead focused on the variety of client needs and outcomes and which insurers offer the best products for those different scenarios.

For our submission based adviser categories, there’s still just over a week to go until the deadline closes, so if you haven’t yet entered make sure you get your entries in on the links below:

Individual Adviser Awards

Adviser Firm Awards

Prestige Awards

We can now also confirm that this year’s event will be taking place at the Waldorf Hilton, Aldwych London, WC2B 4DD. We look forward to welcoming everyone on the day and announcing all the winners.

Elsewhere on Protection Guru last week, we kicked things off on Monday with an insight examining when insurers request financial evidence on business protection life-only applications. There’s a significant business protection opportunity for advisers, particularly as many UK businesses are woefully under protected, but in our experience some advisers shy away from it as it can be deemed too complicated or complex. We hope that insights such as this demystify some of the challenges around business protection and help advisers feel a little more comfortable discussing it with their clients.

Tuesdays insight looked at how clients are protected whilst their critical illness application is being assessed. This insight specifically focused on the free cover offered by some insurers and followed an earlier piece on life insurance free cover.

Claiming on a protection policy is often the ultimate test of the quality of the product and service offered by the insurer, so claims processes is something we’re rightly interested in here at Protection Guru and benchmark insurers on. For Wednesdays insight we turned our attention to how insurers compare on their claims handling service standards, looking at everything from training of claims teams to processes for accepting claims submission from the policy holder.

On Thursday we turned our attention to life insurance and specifically what advance payments insurers offer when an estate is going through probate.

Finally, we finished the week on Friday with a round-up of recent insights focusing on enhanced payments and additional cover for hospitalisation and overseas treatment. Given the increased focus on quality and value, it’s well worth reading up on some of these additional benefits and payments insurers offer, which can often provide the client with extensive financial support above and beyond the core benefit.

Wishing all our readers a successful week.
